As December unfolds, I’m reminded of the unique magic this month holds—a season wrapped in nostalgia, tradition, and quiet reflection. There’s something about the crisp air, the twinkle of lights, and the anticipation of both endings and beginnings that invites us to pause and soak it all in.
For me, December feels like opening a box of cherished memories. I think back to holidays spent with family, the way my grandmother’s kitchen smelled of cinnamon and sugar as she baked, or the sound of laughter spilling out from the living room as we gathered to play. I remember the joy of unwrapping gifts, not for what was inside, but for the love and intention behind them.
But more than anything, December has always been a time to reconnect—with ourselves, with others, and with the quiet wisdom that lives within the rhythm of the season.
The Lessons of December
This time of year has a way of teaching us powerful lessons, doesn’t it? December whispers for us to slow down. It nudges us to let go of the constant push and pull of productivity and embrace rest. And it reminds us, so beautifully, that joy is often found in the simplest moments.
In the studio, I’ve seen this lesson come to life during our Om For The Holidays journey. As we move through classes, workshops, and moments of mindfulness together, I feel the collective exhale of our community. It’s a time to release what no longer serves us and to rediscover the joy of simply being present.
I hope you’ve felt that too—whether it’s in the soft glow of candles during a restorative class or the gentle laughter during a PJ-themed flow. These moments are the heart of December: imperfect, human, and deeply meaningful.
Creating New Memories
This December, I invite you to create your own pockets of magic. Wear your coziest holiday pajamas and join us for the Joy to the World Slow Flow Class this Friday night at 6:30 PM. Let’s laugh, move, and exchange mugs (a simple yet sweet tradition) in celebration of the season.
Or join Simon for his transformative Breathwork class on December 8th at 6:30 PM—an evening to breathe deeply and let go of the year’s weight. And don’t miss the Winter Solstice Sound Bath on December 21st, where we’ll honor the longest night and welcome the return of light with sound and stillness.
Finally, as the year comes to a close, we’ll gather for the Clear Intentions Half-Day Retreat on December 29th. This retreat is a chance to step back, reflect, and set the foundation for 2025 with mindfulness and heart.
Finding Joy in the Small Things
What I love most about this time of year is the way it invites us to find joy in the smallest things. A steaming cup of tea enjoyed in silence. The crackle of a fire or the way a holiday song can transport you back to childhood.
In yoga, we often talk about mindfulness as the practice of being fully present, of savoring each breath, each sensation, each moment. December is a perfect time to bring that practice off the mat and into our daily lives.
As the year winds down, I want to thank you for being part of the 11Exhale family. Each of you brings something unique and beautiful to this community, and it’s a joy and honor to share this space with you.
Let’s move through this month together with gratitude, love, and presence. And as you reflect on your own December memories, I hope they bring you as much warmth and joy as mine do.
With love and light,
Julianne Arce
